WHAT HAS
BEEN DONE?

Thousands of hours of research have gone into organizing and completing historical results via print news reports, video stories, and liaising with both participants and fans alike.

Interviews with several former Miss Canada winners and dozens of other individuals involved have been carried out, even during the current COVID-19 epidemic. More are planned.

The book's (general) format focuses on:

  • highlights from each decade

  • major events and key moments in pageant history

  • famous firsts

  • successes on the world stage

  • archives and basic statistics

with more to come.

It has been decided that is not a "where are they now?" book, rather an archive of this forgotten piece of Canadiana.

WHAT'S
NEXT?

The author is continuing work on the book, while also seeking out licensing for various photographs to accompany the text.

Participants, local coordinators, local and national sponsors, and other individuals involved with Miss Canada (1946-1992), Miss Dominion of Canada (1959-1990s), and Canadian representatives in international pageants are encouraged to share their memories. Those interested in taking part in any capacity are welcome to contact the author via the "Contact" page. An overview of the book and a series of questions will be provided to all interested parties. Interviews can happen in person (primarily in the Greater Toronto Area; some larger-scale travel is possible), via electronic media (Skype, WhatsApp, etc.), or asynchronously (email, regular post).

Photographs and memorabilia are also gratefully accepted (including items solely on loan).

The Book

TELL ME
MORE

The major goal of this project is to share some unexplored, largely forgotten Canadian history. No formal record of the Miss Canada Pageant (1946-1992) exists, its production company, Cleo Productions, having shuttered in 1992; The Fairest Girl in Canada (a reference to the coronation song used throughout the 1960s until 1980) aims to change this.

The book will also share stories and history of the Miss Dominion of Canada Pageant (1959-early 1990s). Arguably never in direct competition, the two contests coexisted (largely) peacefully for decades. Between these two events, the winners represented Canada at major international pageants and thousands of events annually.

Part historical record, part research project, the book will share anecdotes, stories, memories, and lived experiences from those who were there. The end result aims to be informational and factual, while fun and engaging.
